(Professional v.s. Amateur)

(360 degree Presentation Skill)
DSCF6004, originally uploaded by chichinliu.
2. Content
Key message<--All material should support this message
3. Organization
1). TTT skill Opening—Will talk Body—Tell Conclusion—Told
2). Transaction Ex.sometimes, to stick notes in the room is not enough, so second point is “take action” right away
4. Delivery
1). Body language
Eye contact
Body language
Opening
Body movement
Hand gesture
Ex. District Level
2). Voice
6. How to show the Rapport
1) Remember other’s name
2) Humor
7. How to rehearse
Outline->speech->writen->口語
8. Q & A Session
9. Other Tips/Concept

Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability 的縮寫,主要的意思是持續性的以健康的方式過生活,此名詞最早出現在 1998 年由美國社會學家雷·保羅(Paul Ray)所撰寫的書籍《文化創造:5000萬人如何改變世界》(The Cultural Creatives: How 50 Million People are Changing the World)。

Are You Lohas ?

[Speech Script] Are You Lohas
C9 speech Are you LOHAS?
Specific goal: to persuade people to be LOHAS
Opening
It is so good, right? We usually have dinner in Mcdonalds after meeting every Tuesday. Can you remind that? When you eat hamburgers in Mcdonalds, will you consider the impact of the hamburger for your health, your family health, even for the whole environment. If yes, you maybe be LOHAS.
Body
What is LOHAS? LOHAS is an acronym for "Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability". It originated from the book “The Cultural Creatives:How 50 Million People Are Changing the World”, which written by Paul Ray,1998. Ray said that LOHAS consumers tend to make their purchasing decisions in keeping with their values of social and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, They are five key components “Sustainable Economy“,”Healthy Lifestyles”,”Ecological Lifestyles”,”Alternative Healthcare”,”Personal Development” in LOHAS.
According to the natural marketing institution report in 2005, they were 50 million adults in USA are LOHAS. It was almost equal to one-quarter of the population. In 2006, it grow up to 32%. It grow up very fast. We can see the similar situation in Taiwan. Now, I illustrate two stories with pictures.
<1> Sustainable living
In order to give children better living environment, his wife and he had quitted the job in Taipei. They come back to Hometown, toufen, in Maoli.(It’s also my hometown) Then, they opened a handmade grocery store, which appeal to “Non mass production”, “Diversity”,” Originate from environmental consciousness”. They lower their desire for material to have sustainable living.
<2>Organic food
In order to give people fresh fish without poison, Dr. jiang spend lots of energy to get most fresh fish and have many tests to make sure the fish are ok. It is also another kind of LOHAS behavior. They use their way to be LOHAS.
Besides that, there are more people having this concept in taiwan. During the preparation for speech, I surfed the internet to find some information about LOHAS. Few days later, I found that I can feel the sounds which go behind the pc/net to show their strong support for LOHAS. It just like the advertisement of “偉士比/福氣啦”. Many people show their support for LOHAS.
Then, I thought that why did they have so strong desire to support this concept.
Maybe they want to protect the environment.
Maybe they want to use renewable energy source.
Maybe they want to choose environmentally friendly product and services.
Maybe they care about womem’s issues.
Conclusion
I believe that some of you also agree these concepts.
And I thought that if there is one more person in club to be LOHAS-
The environment will have less pollution
The club will lower the frequency to have dinner in Mcdonalds.
The person will become more healthy.
If there is one more person, I hope you will be that person.
[Speech Script] Lisa Ono
C7 speech Lisa Ono
General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform the audience that Success comes from “ Persistence”.
Opening (Introduce the topic)
Success, how to define a singer’s success. (Pause) Maybe you will say that if this album sales volume are big, then he/she is successful. In my opinion, a singer’s success should be influence of songs. I recently had been touched by this song which played by Lisa Ono. (and also touched by this girl …oh..)
This is the first time that lecafe(左岸咖啡) used the whole new style “Voice” to be Jingle (廣告配樂). They didn’t adopt people sound to be dub before. It point out the influence of this song. At that time, I just wondered that why Lisa Ono could sing such a wonderful song with influence. I was very interesting in these. So, I started to research. Now, I will share with you my finding.
Body (the reason for Success)
1. Sweet Voice & Smooth Tune
There is no doubt that she has sweet voice and smooth tune.
~PPT~ Here are some comments form her partners.
2. Bossa Nova Style
Lisa ono released the first album in 1989. After that, she doesn’t stop recording, and she put out one disc a year. Until now, she recorded almost 40 discs. She explored music from around the world. And she have tried to keep each country's accent. For instance, (~PPT~)she used the ukulele (a typical Hawaiian instrument) to play Hawaiian song. She used the accordion to play Italian songs. And she also sing French, African, and Arabic songs. She interpret these music in bossa nova style. she has transformed her material rather than being overwhelmed by it . Bossa nova seems like become her byword.
3. Strong Artistic Vision
Furthermore, Steve also . Someday Steve asked her, "your new popularity is wonderful, but what would you do if it came to an end?" She replied without a second thought, "I'd keep on playing the same music, because that's what I love to do." That shows her strong vision.
Conclusion (Try to link the audience, then call to action)
What can we learn from Lisa Ono. Although, We don’t have so sweet voice, we can learn that her success comes from “ Continuous Persistence”. She persisted in what she loved to do. To be a toastmaster, we learn communication and leadership via doing/speaking. Wanna be a professional speaker? Hold the chance as possible as you can. I deeply believe that your success is on the way. Toastmaster.

[Speech Script] How to be a self-demand reader
Specific Purpose: To inform audience to make good use of raising questions and making notes to be a self-demand reader.
Have you ever read books before sleep? Yes. I have. Do yo have this habit? Yes, I do. I like to choose the diffcult and heavy book to read with a dim light. It will help me to fall asleep quickly. Besides this benefit, what can I gain from this behavior. Almost nothing. I just like a “Sophomores” who likes reading but don’t know the meaning of the book. So I just read a book to resolve this problem to gain other benefits.
According to the books, If we want to improve comprehension ability and satisfy with curiosity, we should be a self-demand reader. [my dear members] Maybe all of you wonder how to be a self-demand reader? I tell you, we can be them via raising questions and taking notes.
The core of being a self-demand reader is raising questions. We should raise questions and try to answer them while reading. No matter which writing is, there are four questions we should raise.
Firstly, What does this book talk about in general?
We must try to find the topic of the book and to see how the author spread the topic step by step and decompose the secondary topic from the core topic.
Secondly, What does the author talk about in detail and how does he say?
We must try to find the main ideas, statement and argument, because these convey the messages the author want to tell.
Thirdly, Does the book make sense? All make sense or partly make sense?
After answering the previous questions, we should realize the author’s ideas. But it not enough to us, we should make a judgement from our point of view further.
Fourth, what is the relationship between the book and us ?
If the book gives us some information, we should think about what does it mean to us. Does it inspire us? Should we realize it?
Afer raising questions, we must know how to answer them properly and precisely. Making notes will be helpful for us to answer them. We can make good use of blank space and underline to do it. The way of making notes will be different form reading level.
If we just read a book, we should have a structual note-making(結構筆記).
It should be recorded the structure of the book, not the detail of the book.
If we read many books related to the one topic at the same time, we should have a conceptual note-making(概念筆記).
It should be recorded the different concepts related to one topic from many books.
The higher level focus on the scenaio of discussion, and we should have a dialectical note-making(辯證筆記).
It involves many authors and utilizes the structure of the concept to arrange related statements and questions.
In my opinion, “a good toastmaster should be a good reader”. Want to be a good reader, we should have high self-demand. My dear members wish you will be a self-demand reader to stride forward a good toastmaser.
